Shipping TV's just seems pretty impossible even when the proper safeguards are observed. Neat set, even though I like my port-a-color it's not the kind of set I'd look to collect more than one of. Then again, I wouldn't turn one down! Back in '06 I bought mine off Craigslist locally for $50 which was high but it was clean and worked well enough. New CRT and it's 43 y.o. going on 5...They last a long time from what I've seen.

I can't pass 'em up either, they made so many damn variations that it's easy to collect a few if you're not careful. These ship pretty well too, packed up correctly that is. I would like to have the one with a clock in it and a few other variations. I love the '74 black handle-less one I grabbed from radotvguy (Mike). It is the only one I've ever seen and man, it has a great pic on the stripe phosphor tube. I sold my other one, now I'm lookin' for that dagburn clock one........

Someone I know out in TX claimed he found two portacolors at a TV shop. I don't know how old they were or if they were indeed tube portacolors. The shop claimed that the CRT's were weak in both of them. I could have probably gotten them for $5 each; but, the shipping would have been $45 or more with a good chance that they would have arrived damaged. I decided to pass and hold out for one locally. Those were pretty common around here not that many years ago; so, maybe one will turn up one day.

I have two of them. One works like new and the other lights its tubes but is otherwise dead as a doornail. So i have two extremes.

Interesting stuff. Mine was built in '66 and the man I got it from claimed he had it since new and has never even been opened up. I believe him since it's very clean and it's only issue was a worn down CRT. After struggling with purity and convergence it has a pretty impressive picture for a portacolor.
