Zenith Rectangular Color...
I spotted this up the block.....should I save it? It's kind of beat up and weighs a ton. It says "$ervice-$aver' chassis and has the green halo.

Guys, it's sitting here right now
 What was I thinking, to not grab it?!It's a 25CC50 ! I'm guessing it's from the early 70s or so. Here's the story. The set was down the block from my house in the trash. Tomorrow morning is trash collection here... The house was just sold and there was a lot of crap on the curb. The cabinet is in okay shape overall, I'll need to paint the speaker grille, no biggie. I took it home, didn't even wait for it to warm up and it fired up with a color picture in my basement, with no antenna. Oh yeah, it's a Zenith lol. What really struck me is the fact that it's still got the original CRT and most of the tubes look original too. Next move is to clean the thing up, which means all tube sockets and controls, then fix one leg which is wobbly  I can't believe this works as found...only has a slightly short vertical, so maybe just as a precaution I'll find some new filter caps for it. I'd post a pic but I can't right now...

CRT is a 25VAMP22....What were they making these tubes out of?! In service mode, all 3 guns are bright as anything still.....Gonna have to spend some time converging it though.

That set is from around '71 or '72. Those were good TV's and will probably last another 35+ years when it's bugs are worked out. You'll be interested to know that those '70's Zenith CRT's hold up very well. It's rare to find a chromacolor tube from that era that's bad.

Used to see a lot of tube type Zenith color TV's back in the '90's. I don't think I've had a tube Zenith console since about 2000.

A lot of them are still in service in the wealthier retirement areas of Los Angeles. Great sets, and they rarely need work. Not too many of the tube type Zeniths, but a few. A lot of early solid state ones around elsewhere, including mine.

I was poking around in the set today and cleaned everything out, etc set greyscale and focus and was actually enjoying watching it, then it suddenly lost all luminance. Turning up the G2's all the way revealed a barely visible raster. What a bummer. I checked the HV, the sub bright pot, and all the other things I could think of. No idea what happened....there was no smoke, smells, or snapping. Weird...

Well there were more like 7 socketed ones and cleaning em all out didn't help.... Damn, I need a print for this set. Maybe the local library has one.

This set dates from 1969-1970. Made back when the old Zenith motto held true "The Quality Goes In Before The Name Goes On". One of the best, most reliable TV sets skilled, well paid labor could give you.

As i recall, these sets were the some of the last to use all made-in-USA parts.
It really is a well built and nicely laid out set. Can't wait to see what it could REALLY do.
