I like the part where they mention that the original parts are easily replaceable, and available on ebay. I sure as hell am not tripping over Komets! Its almost like what Catherine O'Hara did to that Victorian house in Beatlejuice.

So, uh.. basically they uh gut it of all it's audio and video gear... glued on some generic veneer, Shot it with lacquer,.. Pushed a $20.00 TV in where the original screen was,... and called it a $10,000.00 Restored vintage piece??
Did I get that right??? Miss anything???

Since they pitched the electronics, I wonder what evidence is left that it is really a Kuba Komet?
The description was lifted almost word for word from ETF. There was one listed on craigslist three years ago in the SFBAY area. I wonder if it's the same one? John

The Komet was the complete Home Entertainment Center for its time. Opening the door of the lower cabinet reveals the rest of its multi-media features. The early models usually came with a pull-out, 4-speed Telefunken phonograph on the left, and a television tuner in the center which received both UHF and VHF signals, the Telefunken multi-band radio receiver on the right picked up AM, FM, SW and LW frequencies. KUBA also released models that featured a storage shelf, commonly used as a small bar or to store vinyl record albums, or for an additional charge, you could order a magneto-phone wire recorder. Wire recorders THIS MODEL BOTTOM CABINET WAS RESTORED DUE TO THE WEIGHT OF THE TOP PIECE. ALL THE ORIGINAL COMPONENTS WERE
SHOT AND CAN BE EASILY RESTORED TO ITS ORIGINAL STATUS JUST BUYING ITS HARDWARE ON EBAY. THE UNIT HAS A NEW COLOR TELEVISION WITH REMOTE CONTROL. THE BOTTOM SECTION CABINET CAN BE USED FOR STORAGE OR CAN BE RESTORED TO ITS ORIGINAL CONDITION What a DUMB marketing scheme!! The first part (small font) tells us what an innovative and versatile piece of equipment that the Komet WAS, and it was. Fair enough.  Now the second part (large font) goes on to explain how all of that neat stuff was "shot" and replaced with a modern day piece of crap COLOR television with a REMOTE CONTROL. How nice.  Honesty really IS the best policy, so we can't really jab them for lies, that is unless you consider the unobtainium probability factor of finding the parts needed to restore the set to "original status" on Ebay a lie.So, here is what I get. This uniquely designed old entertainment center that has been raped by the presence of some Japanese REMOTE CONTROL, COLOR TV having been shoe horned inside, can be YOURS, or mine, for the very reasonable price of $10,000. No not $10, or even $1000, but $10K. Hey, I guess you can't call someone BAD for fishing for a quick buck these days. Again, to me the way they worded their fairly honest ad tells anyone that the item used to be something really cool, but now is simply a functional conversation piece. Frankly its not the sellers mindset that I would question as much as the BUYER if there is some eccentric fool out there. Somebody please keep an eye on this one and let us know IF it does sell......

I'm soooo far from an expert on these things(kubas), but of the 10 or so pictures I've seen of them they all had a different geometric pattern in the wood veneer... This one just looks like it isnt even the original veneer... So seriously why not just build a new one out of plywood and Veneer?? How is this any different? Is it just because the underlying wood is old???? $10K??? Really??? Tell you what... I will have as many of those built as you want for half that price.. $5K apiece.. I'll even let you pick the veneer patern...

You guys will all probably rake me over the coals for saying this, But I think the Kuba Comet was the ugliest thing that any one ever marketed. What a horrible abortion. The guy who came up with this design must have been a escapee from the nut house. I guess he never heard of the design maxim "form follows function" So if that is true, what does the "function" of this bizarre design tell you it is supposed to do?
The point is that this design has no relationship to it's function, or to any function for that matter. It was just some random scribblings that some demented, would be designer, put down on paper and somehow got into actual production. What's even worse, some people actually bought one! I guess there is just no accounting for some people's taste. My sincerest appologies if I have offended anyone, but I don't see why anyone makes such a big deal over these ugly things.

I have never seen one in person, but in my opinion the only place the Komet fits in is in an episode of The Jetsons. Even so, in my opinion, hacking up something like that was wrong. Does anyone know if the guy still has the guts? Maybe they could be salvaged for another set that needs help
