Latest BPC adventure: RCA 35" CTC179M - no sound

I was given this 35" RCA CTC179CM by an ex-TV repairman friend. Someone he knows brought it to him after they took it to a local TV shop and was quoted $350 for a new audio board. My friend really didn't want to mess with it; but, decided he'd fix it if it was something simple. I think he blew the audio output IC via a slip of the meter probe. After changing the IC, he determined that the trouble was further back and left it alone. In fact, there was a pill bottle that contained 3 audio output IC's inside the TV. One is the blown part and I have no idea about the other two.

This set has a good picture (for a 35" Thomson set) but the only audio I get is a loud pop from the speakers when I turn on the DTV box. I do not have a schematic and that audio board looks quite complicated to be trying to work on "in the dark". Is anyone familiar with this chassis?
