The Blu version of "How The West Was Won" has a version presented in a format that simulates the original Cinerama experience!

They call it "Smile Box" and it looks like your set has a severe case of Pincushioning, but it works rather well even on a flat TV screen.

Also in the DVD set is an in depth Documentary on the history of Cinerama with some spectacular footage from the first Cinerama movie "This Is Cinerama"

The movie HTWWW is very enjoyable also with some spectacular scenery.

I tried to take a pic to show what it looks like but it was paused between scenes so it looks double exposed.

How about them putting it on disc in REAL Cinerama format?
I.e. THREE discs that you can show on THREE TV sets in synch. Wonder if the gimickiness would take off ?

I thought the same thing, steerpike! I know at least two other (besides me) projector owners in my town and it would have been a blast to put up three screens and synch up three separate discs. C'mon Criterion...I dare ya!

I suppose you could fit a projector with a special lens and build a curved screen...

In a somewhat similar exercise: Early 1980s, there were some exhibits available from an art gallery near me of 3D videos;
Two U-matic cassettes per program (needed genlocking, so that ruled out Beta or VHS), designed to be run through two projectors (back then 3xCRT types) each with polarizing filters over the lenses. Not really geared to home use, considering the cost of that kind of hardware then.

Saw the original in Houston...waaaayyyy back when. It was really impressive...and a bit overwhelming.
