GRUNDIG super color C 4404
This TV SET of German Grundig year 1982. Is a portable set of 18" with 30 channels, and connector AV Din. CRT Toshiba black stripe. The peculiarity of this TV is the chassis. Truly original for a grundig, is very compact, but difficult to repair because of difficult to access cards for the electricity measure.

That's a cool looking set, does seem hard to work on, you're right about it being packed in there. Also, it was made the year I was born!

thats' a CUC70 chassis, it was very compact as it was meant to be used in every possible size of set, from 16" portables to 26" top of the line sets (22" and 26" models used Philips' excellent 30AX 110 degree CRT), it was a good reliable chassis.

I've never seen one of these in the USA, did they export them to us at any point? If so, I would like to have something like this in my collection. Very unique looking sets. Besides, I am a Grundig radio fan, it would be nice to have a tv made by them. I love my Grundig-Majestic 3028 table radio, blows away most anything it's size including a modern Bose.

I have doubts on reliability. often the maxi RF module had to be made all the welds on the group diodes otherwise the band III does not see. the fact remains that the service was difficult to do

I have two CUC70 sets (both are larger tabletop wooden sets) and luckily their tuners are working fine... i just had to replace the tripler in one of my sets.
I'm keeping them in my collection but i'm NOT going to use them as daily watchers, as their tuning system is downright dumb and drives me insane: they have 99 channel preset positions (as if you'd ever need more than 10 presets here) and you can't just push "3" on your remote and get preset #3, the set always wants you to enter the second digit, you have to enter "zero and three" otherwise the set just does nothing and shows a "3-" on its display! ![]() I don't really think they (and any other Euro set) were ever exported to the USA, they were 625 line PAL sets and modifying them for 525 line NTSC was probably not worth it, also they were ALL tabletops and were probably a bit cheap looking for American tastes, even top of the line sets had shallow cabinets covered in cheap woodgrain vinyl, and push through CRTs They were exported to Argentina and Brazil though. |

In the past I have repaired many with this defect on the synthesizer. information: the triple is no longer commercially available. This model has chassis CUC 52 KT.

AFAIK, the only vintage Philips set with 525 line NTSC capability (along with 625 line PAL and 819 line SECAM) was the amazing CTO-N 16" multistandard portable from 1983. Philips made a lot of color chassis models during the 70s and 80s (K9, K11, K30, KM2 and so on) but they were single standard PAL or PAL/SECAM only But maybe some American manufacturers used Philips' 20AX or 30AX 110 degree inline CRTs? they were used by many European manufacturers back then, the 20AX came out in 1974 and the 30AX came out in 1979 i can still find new triplers here... but i also have a lot of salvaged triplers! |
