Bad "Background" TV

I was flipping through channels until I came across PBS, the guys from This Old House did a 30 minute program about digital television. In the program they put a few TVs around their work room, when the camera was moving around, I notice that one of the sets had no deflection. I managed to take one clear photo of it before the camera moved away.

At least we can't say their not using real TVs...

its an old GE portacolor. Probably just needed some resoldering on the vertical output tube socket and it would still be working fine.

Those sets never really had a great picture but they sure were built like tanks.

Well, given how long the taping of that show ran, I'm sure that poor crt is toast now. Kind of odd, though-with all the rules and regulations for safety in these shows, wouldn't you think that they would power down a set that was clearly malfunctioning, rather than letting it run for hours and potentially burning the set down? I guess Norm could rebuild though...

Ive seen that problem before, and its very common. Its caused by weak reception because they are inside a metal building. It could also be caused by dust inside the TV. Besides, its old and its analog, so what good is it?

I've been told this many times, by many people when I show them a TV doesnt work. So it must be true.

norm is my hero, i cant even make a birdhouse and this guy hammers out a beautiful 17th century designed dresser, sands paints and puts it into use in 27 minutes! Amazing!
