SONY KV-1310 Trinitron ... Help! - Videokarma.org TV - Video

Someone has asked me to find a KV-1310 Trinitron for a display of early TVs...and I need some help.

They're sure this was the First Sony in the USA...any info/opinions? Do these usually work reliably? Any problems with circuitry or CRT that's common on these?

And, of course, if it IS the first, then has anyone seen one for sale recently??

I have a KV-1201 and a 1210, the main issues were dirty controls on mine too. The other thing I noticed is all the Sonys of the era had "instant on" and most of the CRTs are toast. I think this is why they are so hard to find. Excellent little sets when working with a strong CRT. Good luck finding one.

The first was the 7" KV-7010UA, and then the KV-1200/1210/1220. There was no KV-1310 in the USA, but I bet there was in Europe.

I might have figured out the problem...as Charles said, this might have been the first European set...

From the Sony.net website:

"Five years had passed since the first Trinitron color television (KV-1310), was launched in Japan in October 1968. Overseas demand had grown steadily and Sony had built manufacturing plants for color TVs and cathode ray tubes (CRTs). As Sony was preparing to establish a new plant overseas, wonderful news came. Sony's Trinitron was selected for an Emmy Award. "

THIS is the answer--from an old AudioKarma discussion:

" . . .On another note: The Japanese-market version of the KV-1210U was the KV-1310. Evidently the Japanese continued to market TVs using the overall diagonal (in the USA starting in the late 60's, advertized TV picture sizes had to be based on just the viewable area). . ."

So, I guess I'm really looking for a KV-1210...just in case anyone sees one listed for sale--

You can have my KV-1210, it's not in the best condition but it's yours if you pay the shipping. I can post pics if you want, the vinyl "wood-grain" is peeling off the top but the set works with a semi- strong CRT. I only want to keep my minty KV-1201

Hi All!!

Well, I still need a KV-1210 or 1210U...just in case there is one out there, for sale...or if anyone spots one.

Mark was very helpful--but the set he had was not the 1210...and since it's for a museum, I'm still looking!

Yep, my memory failed me. I have a KV-1212, it's been a WHILE since I looked at it. Again, sorry about that Harry. The set is still free to a good home if anyone is interested. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a 1210, I'm always rummaging through thrift shops from Lake Forest Il to Cuddahy Wi.

OK..well THAT lead didn't pan out either..anyone that knows of a KV-1210, dead or alive, please let me know! It seems although everyone thinks they have one, they are much more elusive to find than you'd think!
