It's a good thing they mentioned that. I almost bid on it. Every time I mention I am into vintage TV's people tell me they are not going to work. Some may be joking but some really believe it. I always tell them I picked up the converter box and I'm good to go.

'Not digital ready' is the silliest thing I've seen thrown about incorrectly and excessively lately. It only applies to OTA reception so it applies to this set and all other non-digital tuner ones in that regard but has no meaning for those on cable or satellite, I guess ones like this are more likely to be used for OTA though. This set would require a cable box or satellite box but digital ready has nothing to do with that, a digital coverter will only be needed for OTA reception.

"Not digital ready"... The seller is right. There are no handles or slots where it can be picked up with fingers.

Good, then everyone around here can GIVE ME their non digital sets that they were planning on selling. Seriously, I still see a ton of non digital TV's for sale on CL and I sell a few myself from time to time. I'm sure that will continue after the analog cutoff. So far, the ones I've sold will be used on cable so it shouldn't make any difference. In fact, used analog set sales seem to be picking up a little since CRT sets are being replaced by FP sets in stores. People will now come near paying $100 for a good 27" CRT set vs. several hunderd $ or more for a new FP set, especially if money is tight. There are still plenty of used TV's at the SA and I don't see any sort of non digital warning signs near them. The only place I've seen the warning signs are at walmart and other places that sell new TV's.

I suspect that only applies to new set sales. Applying it to individuals would be a case where there was an economic taking and eminent domain as to the transferability of property rights. Yes, the gov't could counter it has paid through the digital box program but it probably would not stand as it was related in the promotion of moving to digital and not as compensation as to the prohibition of transfer.

Oooh, how exciting... in the second half of my life, I can expect to become an underground criminal, secretly engaging in clandestine and illegal activities while trying to avoid the "big brother" government!

...all just because I'll want to buy a vintage television that is "not digital ready"...

Oh, and that's only IF I move from part of China back to the United States...

Something in that picture (pun intended) is !

The saddest part, to me, is that my Marantz TV 110 uhf TV Sound Tuner won't work any more. Television just sounds better when it is in "3 Martini" sound! [Actually, my Arcam tuner gives probably the best sound ever heard for home television... but even it will be obsolete.]

You could just feed it with a converter box. Sure.
Just use a converter box, with stereo output jacks, in your stereo system.
