"Used Cars", anyone?
Kurt Russell, Jack Warden.
1980. One of my favorite comedies EVER. "Here, let me show you the capacious interior of this luxury automobile." (A Pinto.) "No Toby, I said a PHILIPS screwdriver." "We would never associate ourselves with the President (Of the United States.), we run a respectable dealership here." "Oh my GOD! Mister, you killed my dog!" "Holy F**k, it's a RED CAR! A red chariot come to carry my soul straight to HELL!" Dave

I always wanted to take a shotgun to a dealers lot and say "That's just too f***'n high!' and blast away that windshield price sticker.
And a note...my brother's (we have different dads) father and grandfather were in the car business for years, and their old lot was used in the movie, with their slogan "Ugly but Honest".

Good crazy kind of fun! One has to wonder how much of it was based on actual events. In that business, probably more than you might think. It is a great movie. Time to watch it again!

Can't remember how many times I watched this on Cinemax :-)
Rudy: C'mon Jeff! You've seen how bad business is. Thanks to Fuchs, our name is mud! Look... we had nuns, protesting out front when I got here this morning. Jeff: Nuns? Rudy: Yeah. I had to have Jim turn the firehose on them. Big Jim: [holds up the still wet firehose] And I knocked them motherfrs right on they asses, too.

The DVD has probably the funniest audio commentary track ever. It features Robert Zemeckis and Kurt Russell, both of whom have a great deal of fun with the movie.
As is usual with a Zemeckis movie, there are many layers of detail, which the commentary helps to point out. And Kurt Russell can't stop laughing! So many classic lines, but the scene I think of most (okay, after Marshall Lucky's commercial) is when Gerrit Graham nearly gets hit by that car. If you have the DVD, watch it with the commentary. It truly adds a new dimension of hilarity. |

"Don't let the little head do the thinking for the big head"
"Best salad bar in town-Airport Lanes!" "Polish, eh-what a coincidence. Rudy Polanski" (and Rudy Garcia, Rudy Washington-Carver, etc.) "What do you want for two hundred-metal flake?" "No, ma'am, that's yellow primer." I saw Used Cars three times in the theater, then taped it onto $30 worth of blank Beta tapes from the OnTV pay-TV service in Chicago (when I made $4 per hour). After that, the first Laser Disc release, then the remastered one, followed by the DVD version. I can't wait for the Blu-ray disc to be released.
