I usually don't take a TV that is considered to be in "junk" status today, but this 1991 KTV 19TEC1 19" mono TV with no video input

that has been sitting in my closet for more than four years was once owned by a rockstar singer in Trapt band. (http://www.trapt.com) and (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trapt). He got it new from his parents when he was 10 years old, probably as a birthday gift, and used it for 12 years. It was then handed down to his brother in 2003 to use for his college dorm room, which I also lived on the same floor, and he was a friend and a huge fan of me one time. At the end of school year, he gave it to me along with the desk chair because he could not put them all into his car when he moved out.

So, I have this KTV 19TEC1 here and don't know too much about it. It was last working four years ago when I last tested, and it hasn't been used since. I do know that KTV stands for Korea Television, and it was the fourth largest Korean television manufacturer after Samsung, GoldStar, and Daewoo. Unfortunately, KTV didn't stay in business for long.

I like to know some positive things about this KTV 19TEC1. Have you ever seen one? Who made the picture tube and how reliable was KTV? The lead singer in Trapt, at that time he was attending University of California at Santa Barbara in the late 90s, probably did a lot of cool shit to this TV, like all of his bandmates came over and watched porn videos for many hours and got drunk, as well as PlayStation games. The set received moderate-heavy use. If this TV wasn't owned by a rockstar, sadly, it would be in the trash can already. Thanks to anyone who can give me more info about KTV TVs.

Those early Korean sets aren't bad at all. They were fairly well built, and once the tech got familiar with the Korean design, not too hard to work on. Celeb-ownership value? Not sure. I've had sets belonging to various celebrities, and unfortunately, it didn't seem to do anything for the value here in the Los Angeles area... Martha Raye's CTC-40, astronaut Buzz Aldrin's sets; Sylvania 19" and RCA 15" tube set), and I also had a Panasonic projection set which was completely thrown out of alignment by Vince Neil (Motley Crue), and a Sony LV-1901 TV-Betamax console which belonged to Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach, even President Reagan's cheapie RCA VCR from his Century City office after he left the White House. Sadly, I think all of them wound up dumped, except for the LV-1901 which now belongs to another SoCal TV collector, and the Reagan VCR may still be on a shelf with an inch of dust on it down in West LA.

But if celeb-owned sets become more of interest, I have a whole housefull of sets that presently belong to a 1990s actress who did season 8 of Seinfeld, and other stuff in the late 90s....

Put it up in yr bedroom, or guest room, watch it & enjoy it. It'll be worth more in THAT way than in any collector/celeb interest it may have.

I have a 13" mechanical tuned '86 KTV that's actually built fairly decent and works well. I don't remember who made the CRT; but, many of the semiconductors were made by Toshiba. The set uses the old metal cased TO-3 horizontal output and voltage regulator. My set was a dumpster find and all it needed was a tuner cleaning. The CRT is still very strong after 22 years. I'll hang on to it until it either blows up or I find something older that I like better.

The early 80s Daewoo/Portlands were solid sets as well. The ones I've seen used Orion CRTs. I had a 13" knob Mava from about '87 which I think was built by KTV.

celebrity owned? a co-worker back in the day(mid 70s),delivered a furnace to dave thomas.his wife was a very nice woman also.she gave him a muntz projection set. remember the sony tv in the console? he called back and i left the the sheet metal shop to give him a hand. that thing weighed a ton! it was only a few months old and she hated it. this was very high tech for those times. lost track of the beast through the years and in the late 90s it turned up in my brother in laws basement. alto(my co-worker),had carved his info in the cabinet.it still worked as good as it did when purchased,but by today standards-a dinosaur.he offered it to me for free.no thanks,i still have back spasms from the first time.

I'll look into it next time I go to my friend's shop... Last time I thought about that VCR, Mr. Reagan was still living. I think it needs to be saved. I have no way of knowing if he personally used it, but it was in his consulting office in Century City.

Well, after two years later, I cracked open the cover for the first time and found the picture tube was made by Samsung. Is this good news?

The lead singer and his brother would call me "weird" for hanging on to this piece of junk for so long, but any diehard fan would want it. The heat wave does smell like him though.

And there's a lot of hookah and beer dust inside it

. Well, his brother did smoke a lot of hookah if I remember, so it's no surprise.

I feel I can't bear to hang on to this any longer, since it's wasting space, and I don't know which right person to give to

I would be interested in Ronald Reagan's RCA VCR if you can find it for me and the person who has it doesn't want it anymore.
