modernish TV service question (help)

I have a few dead RCA CTC177's or so I'd like to bring back to life and sell for a couple of bucks. All systems look good on them with a forced run so I suspect I've got totally corupt EEPROM's. Rather than order new one I'd like to just reprogram them with the defualt chassis specific file. Where do I get that? I do have access to a programmer we used to use at work. Pretty easy to figure it out. This would be a really neat experiment too.

Have you resoldered all the tuner grounds? About 75% of the dead CTC177s I come across will come back to life after resoldering the tuner. If you do need to replace the EEPROMs, make sure you have everything you need to align the tuner before you do anything that will rewrite the EEPROM. If you don't have the service manual and tuner signal generator, you will need to salvage the alignment data from the EEPROM. This can be done by hot swapping the EEPROM after a good EEPROM is use to allow the set to start.

You won't get a usable set if you just program it with the default values. My advice (assuming they are all the same chassis) would be to buy one EEPROM to use as a source of the code and to allow you to start the sets to get the alignment data from each EEPROM before reprogramming them. They only cost a few $ from places like MCM.

I know they need to be "aligned" I've done many. ( Sencore and service menu). Never the hot swap thing though, cool idea. Maybe I'm being too cheap and lazy for my own good. Does prelco have them? I should call. Just by a few and be done with it. Make the wife happly to see them leave.

i have all the files for these.
i copied them from working chassis.
most of the time you can get away with basic adjustments but you must fix the root cause first which is the tuner grounds.
there are some ground points in the middle of the tuner section too.
if you have the rca part number or an EXACT CHASSIS NUMBER i can send you the file.
