Got the Bladerunner box set...
Got the Bladerunner box set, and am looking forward to playing it soon.
Philip K. Dick wrote the book (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?) that this movie was based on. And although not a real big Sci-fi fan, I always enjoy his work and the movies based on them. Other films made from his books? A Scanner Darkly, Minority Report, Total Recall, and Paycheck (which I've yet to see). Special thanks to Drybasement for bringing the boxed sets to my attention. And while I did not opt for the 5-disc set in aluminum briefcase, I got the 4 disc set off eBay for a song. For those interested in the box set, the key element for me was it features the original stateside release, the european release, the director's cut, and the director's "definitive" cut, basically giving you the story in four relatively unique and quite different films. There are other extras as well, but that's what I got it for. After a stint in film studies at college, I opted not to stay involved in the film career for many reasons, but have remained interested in editing footage and film construction. So this is a treat for me. I also picked up the Brazil box set for the same reason. There's a thread about this box set in detail. If you'd like to find more info on it, do a search- it's pretty informative.

I truly love "Bladerunner" but there is little resemblance between the book and the film. Ridley Scott made his own movie with elements of DADOES in it and not much else. In some ways I think the film is a more interesting story than the book was.
The movie "Screamers" with Peter Weller is based on PKD's "Second Variety". It is a decent (if not inspired) adaptation. If you are a PKD fan, it is worth seeing. "A Scanner Darkly" is my favorite PKD adaptation. As an aside, someone has finally found a vehicle where Keanu Reeves wooden acting ability can be used effectively. Lastly, for PKD reads "The Man In The High Castle" is about as good as you can get. I hope someday someone has the balls to tackle this as a film project and not give it the typical Hollywood treatment & ending.  (Duhn, Duhn, Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!)
