What kind of paint should be used for RCA DTA800 DTV converter box for RCA CTC121 TV?
I just received my $40 voucher and used it to buy the RCA DTA800 DTV converter box at Wal-Mart to use for my 1984 RCA CTC-121 TV. The TV and VKT650 VCR are silver. But the box is black color. Not a matching color. I think I will paint it to silver. Assuming I can match the color, what kind of paint should be used for the DTA800 converter? The exterior shell is all plastic, not steel, so I cannot use Rust-O-Leum. Thanks for your help.

Take as color-accurate a photo as possible, and take it to Loews' home improvement center. They frequently run commercials claiming they can match any color paint, even if given a photograph. This is what I'd try first.
If not, you would have to compromise and select as close a silver as you can find on the shelf. Good luck! |

I believe that color matching guarantee is not for metallic paint.

There are spraypaints designed to work well over plastics-a good auto parts store will have them if nowhere else. SEM has a decent line; a jobber should have a chart of paint chips that you could use for matching. If you really were serious there are places that can put automotive paint in a spray can. Metallics can be tricky but then I think you could live with a close match.

We've had good luck repainting sets with Plast-i-kote paints. Ace carries it in this area - you may have to look around. Auto parts places also carry paint for plastics (bumper skins and quarter panels are plastic these days) - Lots of metallic silver cars too!
Cheers,
