Problem with Mitsubishi WS55809

Hi All, A friend just gave me a Mitsubisi (sp) 55" hi def DLP TV that does not work. When I look online, I see that the problem this TV has is common to this model. However, I can't tell what they are talking about to be able to fix it. Any suggestions? Cheers.

Good point Andy, thanks. When I turn it on, a green light on the front blinks three or four times then it all shuts down. The picture never comes up and the sound does nothing. It all turns off. All the post I found on the net never gave any solution. Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers.

Maybe a bad bulb, couple guys at my work have Mitsu DLP's and they're on their second and third bulb.

My guess would be a bad bulb. That blinking light is an error code; but, I don't know what the codes are for that model. Those bulbs often don't last long and they are often expensive.

I just checked the manual.....

WS-55809 is a CRT projection, not a DLP. The most common thing I find on these is bad convergence ICs. On this one they're STK392-570. If one of those died it may have blown one of those little pico fuses in the power supply. The micro tries to fire things up, sees a voltage is missing and shuts down. If you press input and menu on the front of the TV and hold both of them down for 5 seconds the LED willl blink a 2 digit code to you. That may tell what is shutting it down.

1 2 -----No error detected
2 1 -----XRP circuit triggered
2 2 -----Short circuit detected
2 3 -----Horizontal deflection failure detected
2 4 -----Vertical deflection failure detected

To be honest, I don't find the blink codes very helpful
Hope this helps.

Geoff
