The King Kong attraction was lost but that's minor compared to a vault containing 40,000 Films and Videos that was damaged, thankfully I read this:

"Fortunately, nothing irreplaceable was lost," Meyer told CNN. "The video library was affected and damaged, but our main vault of our motion picture negatives was not."

Great to hear nothing irreplaceable was lost.
Man did that fire stink! I woke up to the sound of hovering copters this morning and looked outside and saw a huge plume of thick black smoke. I thought it might have been a tanker on the freeway or something.
A couple of hours later I went outside to do some work and other than some falling ash, the smell wasn't so bad. All of the sudden the wind took a turn and all I could smell was burning plastic. Not Good
My eyes and throat are now bothering me tonight.

I heard this was the 3rd time a fire broke out and destroyed that same location of the backlot.

sadly, there is conflicting information as to the music lost in this fire.

the two lines that freak me out are:
"was only "more obscure artists from the '40s and the early '50s." "

"inside the video vault that was billowing thick black smoke were 1000's of original Decca, MCA, ABC recording masters from the last century including a wide range of music from Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters to Judy Garland and The Carpenters.'

but the information is conflicting, and its hard to tell if anything was lost, or if it was a huge chunk of music history that was lost.

Considering there are absolutely no sources, there is reason to doubt the report (everything leads back to Nikki Finke, who names no names). Given that Universal is probably insured out the ying-yang and wouldn't want to downplay the damage, there is more reason to doubt it (although there is a chance they wouldn't maintain insurance on their vaults). But, ultimately, because I don't want to get stressed out about it, I'm going to choose to doubt it.

Locked in a vault or burned in a fire is near enough to the same thing, anyway.
