Garage sale score B&O MX 5000 + 2 X Beolink 1000 remotes

I think the set may have an issue, as it makes a clicking noise when switched on, but it works and it looks mint.
I was told the set might have problems although it was just serviced. I bought the package for the remotes, which are hard to find used and cost a fortune new.

And you know what's ironic? I stopped watching TV in 1975 and never looked back. I'm the last person in the world who needs a TV. But the remotes are absolutely necessary to run the B&O hi fi gear of that era. They control everything but the telephones.

i usually like B&O stuff, but not the MX series... they actually have a terrible Thomson ICC5 chassis which i wouldn't touch with a 10ft pole, and many of their CRTs went bad prematurely...

Their earlier LX series had a real B&O chassis and used the excellent Philips 30AX CRT, much, much nicer IMHO.

Thanks for the info. I actually know zero about TVs, as I haven't even owned one for much of the last 30 years. This 32" Sony I bought in 2001 will probably last me the rest of my life, as it gets less than 100 hours/year of use.

I worked for B&O briefly in retail sales. I never got to the point of learning about the older sets because of course I had to know the current products. They were astonishing performers with even more astonishing prices.
This set will probably be given away or sold. I really just wanted the Beolink 1000 remotes, which work on the audio gear. I have 8 or 9 of the turntables and a variety of other stuff.

B&O audio gear always struck me as high-end. Never saw one of their TVs though.

The Beolink system was pretty incredible at the time, and later on we saw various other manufacturers linking their components together in a similar way. Sony had S-link, JVC used 'AV Compulink," etc.

Would like to see a pic-- I didnt even realize they built TVs.

Yeah, B&O is big into networked systems, which is definitely the wave of the future. They made it work with their own proprietary designs and it's pretty slick. I've worked on a lot of their gear and the designs I've worked on were very well done. This is my first of their TVs.
The set isn't much to look at. It's black all over, featureless and very very glossy. I'll try to get a pic, but don't expect much.
The thing weighs over 100 lbs and I weigh 160. It was a struggle hauling it around alone and getting it up on a stand. I could have waited for my wife to get home and help, but then I wouldn't have been in charge any more.:roll eyes:

Actually the MX 5000 is a Hitachi chassis. We have repaired several requiring about 45 electrolytics and a few corrosion repairs. CRTs have all been fine. I was just given 2 MX5000 to restore, and 5 VX5000 vcrs (free). 2 of the vcrs are supposed to work, but in our experience they have 60 or so leaky capacitors. I might trade a vcr for one remote. Having a vcr adds PIP to the system.

There was a MX 5000 US version. It has RCA jacks for some of the ins and outs. Not many were sold. They were $2K, which was a lot for a 28" set in 1990. Mine has stopped working. I hope it's a minor issue. I'll be back later begging for free repair advice.

Well, maybe the hitachi chassis was fitted in NTSC sets... the ones sold here in Europe had the ugly Thomson chassis...

Older sets from the 3xxx and LX series were far more stylish and unique, but i don't think they were made in NTSC form for the US market
