LOL! thats exactly what i was thinking wa2wise, i was thinking if they turned the tv upside down, and rocked the CRT till it rubbed the phosphor off the upper portion, (a crude etch-a-sketch) a CBS exec would want this for their office Steve

The byword of the old days in the TV shop was "Watch the Tube!!!!"
Oh well...those were the good ol' days.... I carry old console floor models from one place to another with the front toward me--carefully. Table models I usually carry with the top side toward my belly and the screen-side pointing down, with the neck of the kine at my closest scrutiny at all times in transit as a result. That neck end sticks out, and has a nice little "bra cup" on the cardboard backing of most sets. It is the "Achilles Heel" of the kinescope. And sticks out like the utmost amplification of the proverbial "sore thumb"--or gouted big toe.... Sometimes it gets slightly nudged, and an epoxy job will stabilize the cap at the end, lest the thin wires coming out of the glass envelope break from too much flexure. I've done many of those repairs--including removing the cap, delicately filing down the glass around a broken-off-at-the-glass lead to wrap another lead and solder, then re-extend all the leads through the hollow pins of the connector cap, and re-affix the cap with epoxy or whatever. Too many times. Other times the nudge simply has too much force behind it, and one hears the hollow rush of air into the kine as its little exhaust tip between the leads gets broken...Then the inevitable long walk to the front of the set from the back to watch the blow pattern in the phosphor.... Oh well....
