It Followed me home

Hi,
I've posted a couple of times , never had any reason to chime in until now.
I was in a junk shop the other day, saw an interesting old Hoffman combination.
It followed me home, the owner wanted to turn it into a fish tank.
This is a very nice looking set, I thought I'd try to save it.
The picture tube is shot, tried to bring it back without any sucess.
This is a Blond model 946, chassis 164 from 1950 with a 16 inch rectanglar tube.
I'll try to post a picture later. This thing is outrageous looking , and was very high end for it's time.
I need to try and find a replacement crt, but first I need the tube #.
Does anybody have any information on this set ?

Didn't find much with a Google of your info, but someone will chime in eventually that may know the Sams folder #....

As for the # on the kinescope (picture tube) it is usually found on a sticker on the back of the tube. Dust off the sticker with care, and make sure you stay clear of the heavy-looking lead going to the aperture in the "bell" of the tube. You may already know this, but I'll say it anyway just to be safe: If you accidentally touch it you will not be happy you did.

I've never encountered a crt I couldn't bring back to some degree
This thing is DEAD.My best bet would be if I can find a used one.
I'm looking for a 16tp4 ,if anybody has one they want to sell or trade.
I've got around 30 old sets, nice collection .

Is the 16TP4 a metal/glass tube? I have two Hoffmans with metal glass tubes, one has a 17TP4 and the other the 19AP4. The 17TP4 was dead as a hammer, but I was able to find a NOS one to use. The 19AP4 is very weak, but I have not yet found a replacement.

Due to my experience with metal/glass CRTS, I tend to avoid sets that contain them.

Good luck of finding another CRT, the set appears to be a very neat one.

Hi,
This is a all glass rectangular tube,
I think that's rare for 1950.
My 1951 RCA 16 inch round tube is a combination metal and glass, I believe more common.

More likely Dom Perignon; I've seen some of these Hoffmans--and their rather elaborate circuitry, and I can't imagine they were sold at giveaway prices in the day....

I have 3 Hoffman EasyVision table models that I have restored, two with all glass 17HP4 CRTs and one with the metal glass 17TP4. It is kind of strange watching living black and green(not black and white).

Hopefully, since it is an all glass CRT, it will be easier to find a good one.
