Tru Flat CRT better than LCD when handling darker colors

I have a Modern CRT Tru-Flat TV from 2004 (I know its not vintage) but the image clarity and color vibrancy is almost as good as an LCD.

and this is generic but somewhat Big CRT TV from wal-mart.

One thing I notice about CRT's is that the darker colors seem more realistic than the LCD. Why is this Isn't an LCD sapposed to be better than even the best CRT?

I'm comparing it to my Dell LCD computer monitor.

CRTs produce deeper, truer blacks than LCDs, which still can't match the CRT black level. Also, hate to rain on the parade but if the Truflat is an RCA combo unit, don't expect it to last too long... I would keep the brightness low while you still have lots of life in the tube...

No matter how well made the LCD, it will bleed light and never reach the black levels of a CRT. This will also affect greyscale and color, but to a lesser/noticable degree.

I have an original Zenith ZCM-1490 FTM (flat tension mask) VGA monitor from 1987. That is a true flat screen CRT with some of the best black level I have ever seen. That comes at a cost though. The 14" monitor required 300w, it is very heavy and the tube life is short (compared to a standard CRT) if you run it at high brightness.

I'll have to agree, as much as I hate to. I just recently picked up a 2005 20" RCA TruFlat TV/DVD combo with a toasted CRT. The green reads very little on the tester and the red and blue are dead. Rejuvenation and raising the filament voltage was a total no-go. The tube in mine is an LG-Philips.

This is No RCA but it does have a Tr-Flat screen. This is a symphonic.

I have one of the last Sanyo crt based HDTV's (16:9 ratio) built and to me theres no comparison with LCD's, plasma's or DLP's. The blacks are black and the color is incredible with a super sharp picture even on low grade analog channels. I do own a new 52 inch Toshiba DLP and its nice with decent blacks, color and resolution but its not as sharp as the Sanyo. A friend of mine has a 42 inch LCD and the blacks on it are different shades of grey so no true blacks. No matter how you adjust it, and believe me i tried, it appears washed out. Analog channels on the LCD are horrible!
