Looking for '72 Zenith literature
I know it's a long shot, but i'm hunting around for a console we had while growing up. It was a 1972 Zenith 25" console, with the tuner knobs aligned vertically, two rocker switches either side (AFC? left, power right), and tint/color/volume just below that cluster, along with hidden controls. The cabinet was probably considered a colonial type, with a fake-wood window shutter like design surrrounding the controls and forming the speaker grille.
It was a very long-hours (tired) set, which my father gave away in '84 when we got a new 26" Sony, so I have no idea about chassis/model numbers. I do know it had a tube chassis, as we had more than couple of trips to the drugstore for replacements over it's lifetime. Anyways, I was wondering if there was some sales literature or photos floating around where i could get more info on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Does it look similiar to this?? It's a 1972 Solid State zenith. Zenith seemed to make variations of the same cabinet or several styles that were similiar. To find an ad with that exact cabinet may be impossible. Makers always seemed to pick one or two favorite cabinet styles for a model and feature them in an ad?
Search for 1972 zenith on fleabay. Try and find tv console ad with similair cabinet front as yours, may be same chassis in slightly differnt cabinet. An ad may be found easier than the tv. supersize picture for detail.

Most searches yield photos of the Avanti models... but after digging deeper I found a couple of pics that show similar sets. The cabinets are different in these pics, but the controls are the same.

This should be the one. Its out of the 1972 Zenith catalog and is the only colonial cabinet with this control dial set up like you described. Its model C4736M1, the "Daumier".

That's it! Wow, haven't seen one since we got rid of ours years ago. Brings back memories for sure..... everything from Nixon resigning to the sign-on of MTV, Jets football, NASCAR before it was popular, American Sportsman & HeeHaw every Saturday, and Cronkite every weeknight. Played my first video game on that set (Magnavox Odyssey2, still have it), and was my introduction to tube technology and TV DX'ing.
Thanks for posting that! Made my night for sure. Now I wonder if there's one still in existance somewhere.

Was this a mostly tube chassis or was it a 4 tube hybrid?
