Hello,
I'm looking to learn about TVs and video -- I've electronics experience but not previous TV exp -- and came across a 1974 Heathkit GR-300 19" inline gun color chassis only -- basically just a parts unit -- and manuals. I'm very far from a working unit right now. Although I don't know if there are better sets out there for learning, it seems the GR-300 is ideal -- excellent manuals giving pretty much a full education on TV theory and the set itself. The Heathkit ET-4001 course would also be nice. If anyone knows where I can buy a GR-300, or has other suggestions, I'd love to hear your advice. Thanks John Singleton Rockville, MD |

John, keep looking, give this a bump from time to time. Might also want to post on the early television foundation classifieds if you haven't already. These do turn up from time to time. Several years ago now I came across one in Dover, DE but had no room for it so I never followed up.

i'm late here, but maybe i'll get lucky. i got and put together the gr-2001 tv several years ago(1988). it worked great for several years and then i left it in the cabin for about 8 mos. plugged in and when i returned i could get the audio but no illumination whatsoever-perhaps you have come across some info along the way which might help me(sources for parts or advice). it had a great picture-rca crt w/a zenith chassis all ss w/keypad for channel selection. thanx in any case.

I have a 23" all-tube console Heathkit color set sitting in my barn... Clean and complete, with manuals, would probably give free to a good home. It has a bad cataract on the tube, but could be fixed or get another tube. I've never powered it up, but I got it from the original owner/builder, who said it developed an HV arcing problem and he never tried to correct it. I know you're in MD and the set is here in CA, but just in case you have interest and a way to get it........

These Heathkit TV's have a certain charm to them.

My brother got my parents one, one a friend of his built, back around 1975. was a daily watcher until about 1984 or so. its CRT was shot by then. Then we got an RCA CTC121.
Think my brother still has the cabinet kicking around.
