Weren't these the crappy pressboard and plastic monstrosities that Rent-A-Center used to carry? Definitely not the same level of quality as the C-M consoles of the early 60's.

I recently junked a circa '74 model CM combo with the same tuner knob layout. Mine was not as big as this; but, it was a very cheap particleboard and plastic cabinet. The TV chassis didn't impress me, either. I also recently junked an '80 model Rutherford (same as a CM) combo due to a bad CRT and problems with the chassis. It was also housed in a cheap made cabinet. IMHO, the Zenith's, RCA's, Sylvania's, etc. were much better built sets for less money than the CM's of the '70's and '80's.

We had one very similar...salvaged all the components and discarded the cabinet. It is indeed a very cheap particleboard and plastic cabinet that weighs a ton.
I have a similar design one from the 60's w/ b/w TV and it is much better in both furniture and electronic quality. |
