Yes - amazing. Eastwood made it on a whim and a shoe-string budget after he made the other, more famous, one. The Japenese actors were all unfamiliar with the history of the event, too. Much better than the bigger budget version that emphasises thwe American point of view. - but it's worth seeing them both.

I've seen it a couple of times and find it quite interesting, especially the way it portrays the zealotry of the Japanese soldiers. If I have any criticism of the film, it's that the main character seems almost to be a bit too "Americanized" in that he seems to question the direction, guidance, and "dedication" of the other Japanese. He's too much of a free thinker.

If you've seen both movies, it's interesting at how some of the scenes overlap.

I think that was the point, that not every Japanese soldier (or citizen) was blindly following the Emperor. There were a few kamikaze pilots who did not follow through with the sucidal attacks. Enough were to dictate history, but as in every society or organization there are dissenting views. I enjoyed this film and thought the performances were universally excellent.

I consider this one of the best movies I've ever seen. I think it will in the future be regarded as a milestone of American cinema. I don't buy many movies, but this is one that will make it to my shelf.

I think the picture failed to adequately portray the savagery and desperation of the Japanese defense. I thought it interesting that the picture was rather "anti PC" in that it showed the Japanese were NOT "just folks", not people like us, us being the Americans.
