But the only reservation I have is that if that television receiver was tuned to any one of the US major networks then it may qualify not only as hazmat, but that it should perhaps be removed by a bomb squad after processing such poisonous programming for so long. Under Massachusetts or California regulations it may be possible that removal of the TV is not permitted under safety laws written. Be it in the Commondearth or the west co$t state the whole house would probably need to be burned to the ground under a special tent. Bear in mind that the state of our union that shows up in phrases such as "This chemically pure water is known to the state of California to cause cancer..." is the same state that is creating the programming that we are seeing. God bless the writers' strike; we may get decent television in the meantime.... Forgive me; I know that I'm perhaps being in some eyes a snot and a snob here, but I'm a crabby old New England grump, and such drivel as these writers show on the major networks are in my opinion best saved for those that would waste their time watching such. I'm a little old fashioned, I guess. I hope I haven't offended anyone; just speaking my mind, and how I feel. Back to the set, I have several of that ilk aroung here for when I want to watch TV--which is seldom. All my sets say SONY in their bold letters....But I will give a plug to Toshiba and Panasonic as well.... In this country we have Zenith (God knows where it is made now!) And we have--I mean HAD--RCA (which made some good television sets in earlier years!) and GE (Which in my humble opinion.....?) But now both seem to be made by Thompson (TCE), a brand which I wouldn't pay to keep in my living room. We've all sold our souls to the Asians at this point. We need to get on with it. We made this bed, and now it is beddy-bye time. This means that nearly every brand that was king in this country back in the day is no longer. G'night, folks! Sad.

My 42" Fujitsu plasma was removed from a client's house in 2005 or so, and it had been powered on, in an un-vented space above a fireplace, behind a framed piece of artwork, for somewhere around 7 years. When I unplugged it, the owner's eyes nearly bugged out of his head- he had heard the whirring of the 7 fans in his bedroom for YEARS, and never could figure out what the noise was. Stupid programmer hadn't put anything in the control system to ever turn it off!
It didn't suffer too badly, actually- there is some heat-damage evidence along the bottom of the screen (some "whites" show kind of purplish), and it took me a while to dig the caked dust & ash from the cooling fans. Not bad for free.  je

I believe Thomson recently washed their hands of RCA/GE consumer electronics and the RCA name is now owned by Audiovox. I say "name" because current RCA sets are nothing more than Chinese garbage (like most everything else that is considered "consumer electronics") I will say that Thomson put out some fair sets in the '90's. The CTC175/177/187 series sets all had loose connections in the tuner; but, were otherwise OK sets. The newer RCA's since about 2000(CTC197 to at least the M134 series) love to eat flyback transformers. Sylvania, Magnavox, Emerson, Toshiba, Sansui, Admiral, etc. are, for the most part, just names plastered on Funai made crap.

The set fsjonsey posted shares several styling cues from Motorola sets of that age. I have one that it reminds me of. Japan was still copying others on style around that time.

The early 60s set looks like it says General Electric on the badge, but that cannot be possible.
As for the set left on in Japan, looks like a Toshiba I have. Its a blackstripe II from 1980. I love seeing these kinds of posts, where tv's have been running for years and years, it truly amazes me.

I recall during the mid 60's my folks paid to have new siding put on the house and got a free Admiral color TV out of the deal,it even had this weird remote that made a tuning fork like ping to change channels and volume.Made watching Bonanza on Sundays fun

that last photo does not look real. I didnt read into the website. That telephone and handset do not look proportional to the size of the TV. Just me though.

 Click your mouse's right button for "view image" on where it says "Don't steal bandwidth" and you should see the image with the TV set. I don't know why they'd care... That TV looks to be a wide screen set. In 1995 I was in japan breifly, and they had analog NTSC TV sets with 5 by 3 CRTs. Though the programming was still the normal 4 by 3, they stretched the sides of the picture some to fill the 5 by 3 tube screen. Which would make for awful bent lines on football fields. Seems it was a fad in japan back then.

TVs are often left on for years at a time. A store near my home that's open 24 hours a day has a 20" RCA TV mounted by the door connected to a security camera. It's been on 24 hours a day since the store opened in 2002 and it still looks ok. I see no evidence that it's ever been taken down for repair. I imagine they will just replace it rather than have it repaired when it fails.
