I think that's a late '80's or early '90's Thomson set! I have the RCA version of this set sitting on my carport as I type this. I'll go out there tonight and get it going so I can get my $1K for it! I should contact this seller and let them know that I can fix them up with a truck load of such TV's and I'll let them go for half of what their asking price is. Seriously, someone would have to be a real moron to fall for that set! I'd hate to think what they would want for a Zenith roundie in working condition!

The TV receiver looks a lot like a '91 Thomson GE I saw today:

Those sets were (well, still are) common as dirt around here. Those used Thomson consoles would bring around $100 if they were clean and worked good. Of course, that was in the '90's when they were still fairly new. They are almost impossible to get rid of now. I threw a nice looking GE CTC149 console away just the other day. Yes, I think it was highly fixable; but, I don't have room to keep stuff around for 2 years in order to find it a home.

If that TV is 33 years old, then I must be something like 150 or 160. Does that seller count in dog-years? (Also, does the seller price things in dog-dollars?)

Zero feedback, less than 2 weeks since registration. Clearly one of the uninitiated. Obviously didn't do even a cursory search to get an idea of value.

I'm about to the place where I will not do any business with low feedback ebay sellers. The two times I've been taken were by low feedback sellers that "took the money and ran." I think these sellers got upset because their item's only sold for a $1; so, they kept the money.
I also see a lot of these low feedback sellers that obviously have no clue what something is worth. I've been tempted to contact that seller and tell them that the date of their set can be found printed on the back cover. |

OK, I couldn't resist. I had to clue this seller in. I'll probably get cussed out; but, it won't be the first time. Here is what I told him:
"Hi, I thought you'd like to know that your TV is NOT anywhere close to 33 years old. That particular set was made in the late '80's or early '90's. There should be a sticker on the back cover with the date on it. These TV's are still common and usually don't bring more than $50 in excellent condition." I threw in the $50 figure so it wouldn't sound quite so bad. $50 would be if someone REALLY wanted it. |

my god this is only about 50 miles from me. should i offer $1020.00 just to get him to cancel the auction. that set is a ctc157 chassis if i am not mistaken. i sold a lot of those new in about 1989 or so. around here $70.00 top dollar in great condition. this poor fellow has a lot to learn. i hope that there are not that many fools left on ebay. steve
