Sony KP-46S25 big screen problem

I was given a '96 Sony KP46S25 big screen by the local TV shop that gives me junk. He said he never looked at it because it was one of those "don't fix it if it cost money" deals. Anyway, the only action I get is a constantly blinking standby light when I hit the power button. I hear no click, no squeal, no HV, just the standby light blinks. It will stop blinking when I hit the power button again. I know the number of blinks of the standby light in newer Sony's indicates an error code. I have no idea what to make of this one blinking all the time. I don't know that much about projection TV's; nor, do I like working on them. I just figured I'd at least try on this one so I won't have to dump it. Any help will be appreciated.

If it's any help at all i had this happen to me a few years ago with my old sony. It turned out to be a short in the HV that was taken out by voltage spikes. I know that you are getting voltage and power circuits seem to operate but theres a nasty shutdown issue. HV checks are your best bet. Ic's seem to go in those years so feel for a hot one or cracks..

First and foremost, I know very little projection TV repair. But...my repair database has one entry for this set:

Dead - Check Q601 &602 (Shorted)/R606 Open--Caused by Q510 (Shorted) & C513 & C514

Well, I checked a few things and couldn't find anything wrong. I said to myself "I'm not spending any major $$ on this." So, I placed an ad in the paper "Free 46" Sony bigscreen in need of repair." I got several calls; but, most wanted it to be working or have a "blown fuse." Someone finally came and got it. Claimed he knew someone who could fix it. Whatever, it's out of my hair (what little I have left).

I'm about to the place where I will not fix a used TV unless I have the parts on a junk chassis. I just threw out a 26" RCA CTC187 with A/V jacks. All it needed was the STK regulator and the B+ rectifier diode. There was a time I would have fixed that set in short order. Now, it would just be another one ,that I had money in, to sit here and take up space for two years until someone bought it for $20. I'd rather save the room for vintage stuff.

i am with you on that. i ve got two 31 ge s with the ctc 187 chassis.both needed hot and damper diodes. they look good and i resoldered around the tuners. can t give em away. it just seems the market is bad for these sets. i have about 12 sets i would love to recoup my money.if its not plasma or hd,then they dont want it.surprisingly, the vintage stuff goes though.now if i can get rid of that ctc16 and the maggie combo,19" sony,system3 zenith,21jfp22 tube,etc,etc,etc.
