1966 Packard Bell 98C10 w/remote

Here are the rest of the pics of my 1966 Packard Bell I started on the Early color TV forum.(see my post there to see an outside view of the set, third pic) I picked this up last year, and the remote even works. Whats kinda wierd is that even though the TV was made as late as 1966, the remote control receiver chassis consists entirely of tubes. well, enjoy the pics!-Robert

Great pics! Looks like P-B took a different route with their chassis. Never seen one of their sets here on the east coast. (though I do have a used crt from one)

Hello Bryan! Packard Bell was definitely intersting from an engineering standpoint. They held off on using printed circuits for a looong time. They certainly had odd tube lineups also. They made a really good set, no frills, simple to work on. This one has a great picture, I will post some pics of it working when I get the chance. A good part about these Packard Bell sets is that they used transformers that had tons of substitues, making maintenance easy! The 98C8 round tube one I have has almost an identical chassis, excpt for the deletion of the pincushion stuff. You were also right in that you find them mostly out West, being that the factory was in Los Angleles!-Robert

really nice set! Ive yet to find packard bell around here in chicago. A tv shop that recently closed gave me a bunch of there ultrasonic remotes. I have one of those remotes like your PB has. I never knew thats what set it was for. That remote weights a ton for its size doesnt it! (this means a packardbell set was around here at one time or another!!!!!)

Doug! your quite right! the remote reminds me of something from Star Trek! Its Pot Metal! Do you still got it? One of my "clickers" is broken. Oh yeah, I hope to tear into the Zeniths this weekend!-Robert

My wife's family had a Packard Bell color set in the first 1/2 of the 1960's. She tells me that this set broke about once a week and was left behind when the family moved. She has a bad impression of Packard Bell to this day. (From her description of what happened, I believe the horizontal output tube current was set to high, over heating the tube).

They got a Zenith square tube color next with very little trouble during the set's 10+ year life.
