Predicta recapped
After having some real scares in shipping car parts, (freight carriers are very rough sometimes) I decided to have my Predicta Holiday recapped locally. Brashears Radio and TV Service in Hannibal Mo recapped and replaced any weak tubes. Brashears has been in business since 1946. The set was and is very clean and very nice shape. Russell said he thought the CRT to be the original, though a brightener had been placed. The CRT is weak, but I am going to just play it to see if it brightens with use. I got lucky on my Admiral and it plays strong now. If it doesnt, I will have the CRT rebuilt. The heat these predictas retain is kind of scarey, so I zip tied a cooling fan to the rear panel. Makes a heck of a difference, and might just heat my tv-radio room this winter lol. Tried to take some pics of it playing, but with the weak CRT, they just dont do well. Set will probably be used during evening hours only.

You are lucky to have a local shop that can do that sort of work.
Predictas are really fun to watch when working correctly. A fan is not a bad idea. If the noise bugs you, try connecting two fans in series. They spin slower and still move plenty of air. Phil Nelson Phil's Old Radios http://antiqueradio.org/index.html

Thank Phil,, I was actually contemplating of adding another fan, as I placed the fan on the hotter side. I snooped on the internet for a CRT rebuilder, one that might be driving distance for me. Found this, they do predicta's too!

Hi,
Hawkeye does superb work on CRT rebuilds. I have had several Roundie color CRT and several 1950's monochrome tubes rebuilt by them. All trouble-free. We used Greyhound Package Express to get them to Iowa without a hitch (the miracle of superb packaging).
