Bad Filter cap

Hey guys, I picked up a maggie B&W combo from craigslist...
Cannot tell but looks like early 60's late 50's.
Fired it up on the variac last night. Got it up to voltage and it ran for about an hour. Raster on the bottom started to shrink and the top stretched vertically. Then hhere is a paper filter cap on the chassis, the only paper cap on the unit, started to sizzle.. This cap is a 200v 130mfd can style cap. I cannot locate that rating. I did however find a 400v 100mfd electrolytic. Think it's safe to use that in it's place?

Got any pictures of the set? I have a 1959 b/w Magnavox combo that used to be my great-grandmother's, it was the first TV I ever sucessfully repaired when I inherited it back in the summer of 2000. With the cap you could try mouser, they seem to have more of the obscure values of electrolytics, I think I remember them having a 130mfd-250v cap, also you could just put 2 caps in parallel, a 100 and a 30, or an 80 and a 50.

WoW! Adam thats the same set I have but mine has sliding front doors that cover the crt!

I have used higher voltage caps before , all it will do is be able to handle a higher working voltage but the circuit will still be operating at the same voltage . as long as the capacity is the same or 10 % above it should work fine .
That electrolitic shoulnt be too hard to find though .

I would just search on Mouser.com....A 100 paralleled with a 47 at 250 volt rating should be good. Yes, Mouser does have a 130 but it is really expensive! as it is not a common modern value.

Measure the voltage on the cap that sizzles then go at least 20% higher. In the vert. circuit keep the uf value as close as possible-working voltage the same or higher.
