I'm very suprised no-one has responded with Dr Who fanaticism! I will, then! It's the only TV show in 40 years that has got me saying, "No, sorry mate. Can't be there. Dr Who's on tonight". Makes me happy- a little bit of familiar culture here in Japan is not missed at all. So, obviously you think Christopher Eccleston is a good Dr Who...? What do you think of the story lines? I rather like Rose (Billie Piper) a bit (in a wholesome way!) Watch out for Daleks on the way to cupboard for popcorn.

We just watched the new one this weekend for the first time. As good as the old ones but they look way better. Largely improved acting too.

Eccleston was very good for the first season of the revived series but then he moved on and my wife & I figured we'd miss him. Along comes David Tennant and slowly but surely has become THE Dr. Who IMHO. His first season was as good as Eccleston was but the second just kept getting better. Tennant's better than Tom Baker was in the 80's (my previous favorite) and is quickly getting to the point where I can't really see anyone else playing the part. There was one episode where he has to be ruthless and it was truly surprising the level of ruthlessness the writers put into his character. I never got the feeling about any of the previous ones that they were hardcore. With Tennant's portrayal, eff with Dr. Who at own your peril!

Also, it seems that the writing and story development really picked up 1/2-way through the second season. More complex and enjoyable. They are also spending their money on great sets and set pieces. In all, a very enjoyable hour long romp! The Brits can really kick ass with sci-fi when they want to. I completely agree with your first sentiment, "No, sorry mate. Can't be there. Dr Who's on tonight". That completely sums it up for my family and it hasn't been since X-Files that we'd tear home to watch something either. Sure, I could PVR it but that kind of misses the fun of it all.

And for sidekicks, I liked Rose too but Martha Jones (above pic) was great this season; and now she is gone.......

Can't wait for the new season to start again!
