I saw this piece a few months back at a local radio meet. I was really tempted to take it home, but common sense prevailed.

Now THAT is some serious test gear! Of course, i guess it just looks like a lot because it was made 50 years ago... nah... that's a lot no matter how you look at it!

Hey Eric, cool avatar idea from The Corbomite Maneuver. Took me about 15 seconds to figure what that thing was!

Charlie,

That wasn't from The Corbomite Manouver, I'm very sure it was a different episode. This probe thought Captain Kirk was his creator (Roy Kirk). It had been an early deep space probe that became damaged and was rebuilt by a more advanced alien entity that put it's own qualities into the final product. Mission; to find perfection and erase anything that wasn't.

The Changeling

Rob,

Right you are! Got my episodes mixed up. The correct episode is The Changeling. The probe calls itself "nomad".

The Corbomite episode was where the little baby lookin alien used an ugly puppet to give the Enterprise a scare and study their reactions.

You are correct sir! I liked the Corbomite Manouver. "Not chess Mr. Spock....poker!"

Discussions about the first Star Trek series really shud go in the Early Color TV forum since they were introduced on round screen color TV's, and that is how I like to watch them today! Talk about a nostalgic blast from the past!

That monster RCA test rig reminds me of the photo of the RCA demo television used in the Pict - O - Gram books, y'know, where the laid a whole television circuit on a vertical board with crt on top, and had removable parts so various symptoms could be caused? Wonder where THAT went to?
