Setting up a new TV

Got a call from my neighbor. He needed help with his new HD flat screen tv. Connecting it to the cable box was a breeze, but getting picture:Jeeez. You have to go to menu and do a million and one things before you can see the picture. What is the target market? Computer scientists?

Apparently the target market is image conscious techno geeks and yuppies who need a 3" deep cabinet. And ebay and Craigslist are full of these things so they can't be all that satisfying.

kichijai, it's no different than my CRT based HDTV. It's the advanced technology and not the flat panels themselves.

There is a brand that will not allow you to get to the picture until you have completely adjusted an inbuilt image.

The target market is also (speaking personally) film lovers who want a screen that does justice to the high-def transfers of great movies. With more and more viewing taking place at home, I want something for that purpose that doesn't fill the living room with a huge box.
And when I buy one, it will be for those reasons, not to impress the neighbors

As for satisfaction, I am guessing you have never seen a well-adjusted HiDef Screen. I work in broadcast TV and I can assure you, a lot of those home screens are very impressive.
But you have to be willing to take the time to set them up. It's not plug and play to get the best out of them.

Best,
C.
