unusual tubes

I was digging through a box of tubes I picked up and found these. I thought they might be for mechanical television, anyone know for sure?

The one on the left says on the base: VISITRON Rauland MADE IN U.S.A. 1P30 71A2, and on the glass: 5

The one on the right says on the base: VISITRON Rauland MADE IN U.S.A. 59A3 ....GM VISITRON.... 59A 90 VOLTS MAXIMUM

Looks like photo electron tubes

Yep, phototubes. The trucks that de-ice aircraft use them. The things sense the flame/heater for the de-icing fluid. I was put on the trail two years ago to find some that went on 1960's vintage trucks still in use by the Navy. Not hard to find, really. But tres cool for a tube collector for sure!

Thanks for the info on the tubes, don't know what I'm going to do with these, but at least there were some other more useful tubes in there as well.

Looks like light sensor used in the optical sound system of film projectors.

I agree, the one on the right looks like the one I have in the optical soundhead of my DeVry 35mm projector.

Some early elevator car leveling systems used photo tubes during the late 40 -1950's . there was a light on the different floors and they were used to sense the position of the car and stop in at the proper level Im not sure but . I would say thats what they are ?
