12W6 tube sub?

Messing around with my Emerson 1168A. The vertical is sensitive to scene changes while viewing. VO tube is a 12W6 and I tried a 12W6GT,, in which it did not like. Vertical was way out with the switched tube, so I put the old tube back in. Worked like always. I also have doubt as to the health of the sync tube, which has not arrived. The one thing, the 12W6GT tube got hot very quick and it is a NOS tube. Maybe faulty tube, or not a good substitute?

Is it a metal tube?? In a glancing search I didn't see any reference to a metal 12W6 but did see 12L6 which, being a variant of 25L6 (not 6L6), would differ from the 12W6 in designation only, they're really the same tube. In any event, the electrical specs between metal/GT/G/whatever tubes of the same type will certainly be identical and in that application I'd expect them to sub interchangeably.

A 12W6 in a glass tubular envelope is a 12W6GT with an abbreviated designation. The tube you swapped in is probably no good. Don't you have a tester?

That's not an expensive tube... I'd just get another one from someone here, or from Antique Electronic Supply http://www.tubesandmore.com/ . They've been around for 20+ years, and have fair prices and guarantee their tubes.

One ePay seller I've had a good experience dealing with has a few12EN6's in his store as well, 1 Big Deal; even the usually pricey CJ's Tube Collection isn't asking much for theirs. (No, I am NOT connected with either of those sellers in any way).
