Problem removing neckboard
Hello everyone.
I have an old IBM PS/1 monitor that brought on a red hug about two weeks ago. I want to check the amplifiers on the neckboard, but the manufacture placed hotglue on top of the tube and socket. How do I remove the hotglue? |

You can try to use a knife and carefully cut the glue away. Another possibility is of course to heat the glue until it gets soft.

WOW, I didn't even think about cutting it away, but it worked.
Should I reglue it when I'm done? |

I don't really know if you have to reglue it. I have never done it, and i have never had a problem.

The manufacturer used glue to make sure that the board doesn't fall off during rough handling during shipping. So you need not glue it unless you were going to ship it.

Looks like I fixed to problem. When I took the shield off the neckboard, the backside of the circuit board looked rusted, but it turned out it was just really dirty. After two hours of cleaning it with cotton swabs and alcohol, I resoldered all the connections.
Not only that fixed the color problem, the screen is brighter now, I thought it was just the tube aging. I am going to keep a close eye on it, but so far so good.. It’s a pretty good computer monitor considering I’ve been using it since 1993... Just wanted to share that. |

Interesting how the crt got brighter. Whenever I find or work on a crt-tv or monitor, it is always standard procedure to pull the video-out board and clean up the pins. I clean all tube pins on equipment, so why not a crt's pins? Good story though, since another crt is kept out of our landfills.
