Very late Chromacolor II?
I stopped off at a local thrift store to kill some time yesterday and found this old Zenith Chromacolor II. When I first powered it up, it had no picture at all.
I figured it had a better chance at survival if it at least made a decent picture, so I spent a few seconds and touched-up the brightness, color, etc. I'm thinking this has to be right at the end of the Chromacolor series. The cabinet is pure 70s! It's so ugly I kinda like it! If anybody wanted it, Id tell ya where to find it!

I'm just in awe of all the PC monitors and printers on those shelves! Where I live, SA refuses to take them, and GW tells you up front that they're going to be broken down and stripped for recycling and parts, and has the gall to charge the donor a recycling fee!

The fact that they have at least 3 console tv sets is pretty good-they must have plenty of floorspace. Although I was in the Lutheran Mission Society thrift just recently and they had 3 consoles-a late 80s Magnavox, a GE from just before they bought RCA, and an RCA from '77. At $50/each they will last awhile.

A local goodwill is a graveyard for old consoles. I found an early-mid 70's Zeinith console for $15 I'm thinking of going back for this weekend, if it works. Cabinet has seen better days, but its the same chassis (would have to look it up) I believe as one my folks bought new in the 70's.
They've got the 'this tv will be useless in 2009' tags all over them. Saw one person just rip the tag off and hauled an old RCA off that was in horrible condition... speaker cloth ripped, knob missing, cabinet looked like it was attacked by a gang of Chihuahuas (cabinet was trashed and in bad shape from about 12" and lower. The top veneer was coming off and looked like it had water damage. But, for $5.99 I guess he figured he couldn't go wrong.

It amazes me how picky the Thrift stores have become. Looks like someone forgot the addage beggars can't be choosers. I never see anything remotely close to a vintage tv around here. I think that they mostly get tossed as soon as they are donated, especially if misadjusted and the picture doesnt look right. The only other people i see buy old sets up here are the mexicans who do farm labor on the nurserys three towns away.
