My main set... a 26 inch 1976 Philips K11, with philips' famous 20AX inline CRT,
This set has a superb picture, actually like a modern set, the phosphor stripe pitch is extremely fine and is the same all over the screen (unlike some modern CRTs) it also has a large and great sounding dual cone oval speaker. It has 12 preselections, touch sensitive pads, ultrasonic remote and a 7 segment neon preset display This style of chassis (K11, K9 and KM2) combined with Philips' own Belgian or Dutch made CRTs make for extremely durable sets, i have yet to see a 70s Philips with a weak CRT...

Luxor
Here´s another one of my favourites. This Luxor is from 1978 and must have been very high-tech in its time. The tuner is electronic with electric tuning indicator and LEDs to indicate the band. The CH selector is touch sensitive. The sound system is very good, with an all discrete push-pull amplifier mounted on its own circuit board as far away from the line output as possible (to avoid noise). There are headphone, ext. speaker and tape recorder outputs on the back side. The built in speaker system consists of a 5 or 6" woofer and a 3" tweeter. The cabinet has a lockable door over the controls, and with the tweeter on the other side it is wider than the average mono TV. Overall, the cabinet is in good shape. It needs a good cleaning and some repairs on the top plate, but thats it.

Some small Japanese sets
I've been picking up small sets lately, easier to store and easier to move.
 Here's an AWA Thorn 9" color set I posted in an earlier thread. It was made by Mitsubishi in Japan, probably around 1978/79. It a 12V/240V set. Since taking the picture above I've replaced the oddball power connector with an IEC connector (it fits perfectly without making any cuts to the case) and touched it up a bit. I should take a better picture now it's back in one piece and I have a camera that does a better job at screenshots. It has a good picture, after I finished it I watched a DVD movie (letterboxing is quite distracting on such a small screen) via a VHF modulator (this set doesn't have a UHF tuner).  Here's a bad pic of a couple of AWA 5" color sets that are currently on the work bench. They are also made by Mitsubishi in Japan, but they are newer than the set above (early 80s). Again, these are 12V/240V sets. These both have power supply problems I'm about to get into. They were modified for hospital use with an outboard power supply. After the hospital got rid of them someone tried to reverse the modification, but they may have done more harm than good.  This is a National Action 8. It's a Japanese NTSC set, so it's pretty useless in this country. I don't know why it ended up here. 8" screen, electronic tuning with on screen display (it displays a moving vertical bar that lines up with the channel numbers printed at the bottom of the screen)and an AV input. It's a 12V/24V/100V set with an oddball power connector and an oddball antenna connector. I've yet to do anything with this one. I need to work out what to do about that oddball power connector. An IEC connector would fit in there, but there's too much risk it could be plugged into 240V if I use a standard connector.

I love the way the european color Crt's looked. Why do they look that way? Did they use something other than bonded safety glass?

andy: Did the US version of the Action 8 also have oddball power and antenna connectors?
larschr: There was a dealer here that imported Luxor and Normende sets. I used to see them occasionally, but I haven't seen one for a long time. They had a bad reputation, but I'm not sure why. I do remember that the a couple of the local repair shops that I scavenged bits from as a kid refused to work on them, but that may have just been a weird local thing (I heard that shops in other areas wouldn't work on Sony).
