Need help with '85 dead Zentih System 3
Hi,
I have a Zenith System 3 (model SB2531N6) from '85 that is dead. This uses the 9-214 main module and a 9-187 sweep module. I have 160 volts at the HOT collector and a brief start up pulse of approx. 60 volts from the start up board. I checked all the transistors on the 9-187 and most of the electrolytic caps. I also resoldered some bad connections on both boards. The only bad part I found was the 10uf,315V cap on the main module. I remember this cap causing the picture to be darker on one side of the screen. I used to see a lot of this type of chassis and it always stumped me (along with other guys I know that fixed TV's for a living). I remember seeing some of these where one module would fail and take out the other board. I can't see buying two new boards for this set; but, it's too nice to throw out. I do have the Sams (2443-2) for this chassis. If it helps any; this chassis is similar to the cheaper 9-181/9-186 chassis. If anyone has any suggestions for what might be the problem; please let me know. Thanks for your help, Bryan |

Never mind. Our city had a once a year bulky waste drop off day where people can drop off waste normally not picked up at the curb. I loaded that set up, another beat up mid '80's console, and a newer BPC 36" RCA that had been left outside for months. Don't worry, I won't throw out any tube or decent solid state sets. I hoped to find something at the drop off site; but, the workers throw everything into a dumpster and they won't let anyone take any of it. I'm just glad I didn't spot anything good because I would have gone round and round with somebody. Anything good would have probably been ruined the way they were throwing it in the dumpster.

Well, it is understandable, we can't save every TV we find. there is just so much room in a house. I only have room for 3 or 4 sets and thats all. If i find a better one i have to eliminate one of the old ones to make room for it. Luckily i can post it on AK and craigslist and there will be a greater chance of it not going to the junk yard.
