Scored one of my childhood sets!

This arrived today in great shape.

I had one just like it from when I was about 10 till it died less than a decade later.

My original set was Harvest Gold instead of woodgrain but otherwise identical!

Very cool Eric! Over the past several years i've been doing the same thing as far as replacing stuff i had as a kid. I love going down memory lane.

Hi Tony,

It was really a thrill seeing this today, I took the back off and poked around a bit and was amazed at how 30+ year old memories seemed as fresh as stuff that happened last week!

The date on the CRT is the 48th week of 1968, I thought we got ours in 1970but I could easily be off by a year. (My Mom won it in a Grocery Store Raffle!)

I checked the tubes and found a shorted 4JD6 and (gasp) 6GH8!
The CRT checks good. It has issues with the sync but the pic looks pretty good when it sits still.

There are several Compactrons in this set including the Horiz output which is a 22JG6 where I could swear ours had a 38HE7 in that position, perhaps a revision (or a bad brain cell)

I know the feeling when you get a TV that you had that long ago, and when it brings up memories. I had that exact model, but that was a long time ago... Probably 1978. So that was also one of MY childhood sets! I do still have one nearly identical to that one, likely 1-2 years earlier model. It also happens to be another of my very first sets which I got from a neighbor in 1977. It still worked last time I tried it after the 1994 earthquake. It sits in the closet quietly and forgotten... I've kept it all these years since it was nearly my first set. I do also have my very first set; an early 60s Magnavox 23" consolette. That one got a vertical problem in the late 70s, and I've been "gonna fix it next week" ever since.

Those are good sets. I used to have one of the exact same set, back in the summer of '86 my grandfather had brought 2 of them home from a yard sale, he put one in the garage and gave me the other one and I put it in one of the sheds, I ran a 100' extension cord out of the garage for power and we put an antenna on the roof of the shed, and I used to go out there at 10AM every morning that summer to watch reruns of Lost in Space on channel 36. By the end of that summer I had my first 3 sets: that one, a 17" b/w all tube Zenith I got the previous fall, and one of those mid-70s solid state Zenith AC/DC 12" b/w sets with the tinted plastic cover over the screen. Now that I think of it I would like to replace those sets, particularly that 17" Zenith.
