Whadya thinks of a SENCORE VA62?
Found a good used SENCORE VA62 for less than $200. These things sell for around $3k new. I realize this is like using a nuke to kill a mosquito, especially for a newbie like me.....but I liken it to growing into clothes as when we were chillyuns.
It has more bells and whistles than Carter has little liver pills and should theoretically replace quite a few testers on the bench. What sayeth thou? Anthony |

And I quote:
The VA62 consists of five general parts: 1) The video pattern generator 2) The microprocessor-controlled RF-IF generator 3) The drive signal generator 4) The digital meter 5) Special analyzing tests All are part of a single, self contained unit. Features: Cable channels from 2 to 99 Special video patterns and all channel RF coverage to test any tuner Phase locked drive signals Injection signals for video, chroma, sync, horizontal output, vertical driver and output, keyed stages and audio stages from IF to speaker Reliable yoke and flyback tests VCR analysis RGB analysis MTS analysis Upgradeable with the following accessories (sold separately): VC63 Test Accessory, NT64 NTSC Pattern Generator, ST65 Video Analyzer Stereo TV Adder and RG67 NTSC Video Monitor Adaptor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- They claim it can detect a single shorted winding in the yoke by using a ringing test. Pretty lah dee dah if you ask me. Am sure it's beyond overkill, but if I were to buy all the testers to do the job of this one unit then I'd easily spend more than $200 so it does make sense, for me anyway. Anthony |

Sounds interesting...kind of like an updated version of the B&K TV analyst. I'd probably buy the Sencore if I didn't have the B&K already (it does need some repair though).

The 1077B and 415 are all that I ever really needed when I had my tv shop. Oh, and my tek 466 scope.
The rest of the stuff was provided by heathkit. HV probe, Meter, Vectorscope etc. The 1077B can be had for almost nothing now on ebay, I have seen several that didn't even get an opening bid. |

Seems that the 1077B doesn't perform all the tests the VA62 does (which includes yoke test capability)
What's a 415? Anthony |

The B&k 415 is a sweep marker/generator
