That needs to be GRABBED!
Heathkit-anything is now very collectable. Even the clumsy solid state GR-2000 color set from the early 80s sells quick on eBay. A smaller tube set.... WITH CABINET!!!!!????? One who misses that one is a monkey's uncle! Charles

Still no reply from the seller. Did anyone here get it? I'm still hoping he has it but its doubtful. My grandfather built a heath very similar to that set. He was the first on his block to have a color set! hoping I can still get it.

All is not lost... In fact....
I finally received an email from the owner of the set today. It seems his spam blocker was killing all of the incoming mail he was supposed to receive since monday. I had been emailing since tuesday so that makes sense. Thursday night I sent an email from another account I have with yahoo and hoped for the best. It was the only one that got through --thank goodness.
 I drove up to UTC (around la jolla) about 30 mins away at 10:30 at night to get it. We had a nice chat about the sets history. The owner was in his mid 50s, and he told me that his step-father had built it when he was 12. According to him that was around 1968. It had been used regularly in the family until about 15 years ago when they finally bought a new set --how's that for reliability! Since then it has been sitting in the garage covered up. The set hasn't been powered up since then so I'll most likely bring it up on a variac over a few days to see what the overall condition of the chassis is. It came with the ORIGINAL schematic and assembly manual, and an extra HO tube. The cart is in good shape as well. All it needs is a volume knob and a contrast knob --both of which I may have look-alike replacements for. Although I have other sets to get to first, this is a way cool addition to the collection, and I look forward to restoring it when the time comes. Pics to follow soon....

I opened the set up this morning. Inside was a note of stuff that still needed to be taken care of to get the set working properly again. The overall condition of the set is very good. The CRT is a 21JP22 RCA hi-lite and still has usable emission on all three guns. The flyback was indeed replaced. The only thing that worries me is a section of the note that states that a HO current draw problem needs to be resolved before regular use. Occasionally it would draw to much cathode current on the HO tube and cause it to hotplate!
The layout of the chassis is fantastic. Everything is easy to access, and service gets better as the whole chassis swings out after disconnecting the yoke and CRT. Check out the shielding on the inside metal cabinet! On the HV cage is a diagram of all the controls and board layouts. Although this has some film caps, it also has black beauties. Since the set has been sitting so long I think I'll just re-cap the entire thing. Its not too hard to work on and I have all the service literature. It always amazes me the detail of these heath manuals. This one even has a full color manual on setup and troubleshooting Pictures as promised...
