Hi, guys!! Thanks, again, to Polaraman for picking up my tv, and to my friend Huggy Bear for picking it up from Polaraman, and, delivering it to me. Well, I have it, and have started on the re building. To start, I have cleaned the chassis, front screen, mask, picture tube, and started on re capping it.Here is one view os underside of chassis a couple of weeks back.


It will take some time, but, I look forward to watching some of my old favorite shows on it. Bill Cahill

Hi Bill
Started rebuilding my 6T74 a few months ago. Have replaced all the caps except for the 1kv jobs in the damper circuit. Opened up the hv cans and mounted the filters inside. A member was kind enough to sell me a great 16GP4so when I got the caps installed and fired it up I had a black screen. I figured out that I was missing the ion trap. Once that was fixed it had a nice bright raster. After tinkering for a while got picture but poor horzonal lock. Did find a few bad resistors in the horz. circuit. Haven't had a chance to get back to as a friend gave me a Pilot Super Wasp to get working. Will get back to it in a few weeks.

The mica caps in your horiz. osc., and the ones in video I F 's are likely culprits. I'd also make sure on the operating power supply voltage on 5U4. DC
It should be 370 volts there. On our increased line voltage, this set was wound for 117v AC, with set fully operational, voltage could be as high as 460 volts, which will shorten the life of your filters, ans several circuits.
May I see pictures of your cabinet, both openned, and, closed, and see a picture of set on?

Just fired it up to take some pix and the width has gone down to about 5" wide down the center of the screen. Will do some troubleshooting and take pix later.

Nope. Not my set. Mine has the full doors. Toasted mahoganny. "Regency". Actually, a very handsome set. In spite of it's present condition. Looks like it was mint when the lady put it in storage. She was the original owner. Said it was stored in her attic for 30 years.

Can anyone find me any orig. items for my set, such as sales tag, sales receipt with price paid, owner's mannual, advertisement? Thanks. Bill Cahill

I will be proud of this set when it's done. It will take some time.

Width problem? Two things come to mind, assuniong this set is totally re capped, and all new electrolytics.
1 Yoke
2 Mica caps going to the dual adjustment cpas on back of chassis.
Then, of course, there's
3 Width coil.

That part was known to sometimes suddenly fail.
Usually shorts.
So does yoke.

Did you replace all the paper caps in the hv cage?
Two on vert. winding of yoke.
Two on damper tube.
