Hmm, I suppose anything's possible, but I have never heard of a Guild television, only radios, some with phono.

Also, all the Guild cabinets that I've seen look like something else, as mentioned before -- a spice chest, rolltop desk, teakettle, etc. This cabinet just looks like a cabinet.

If you are talking about the lower chassis mount screws, there aren't any. One curious thing though, closer together than the lower chassis mounting holes there are a pair of "T" nuts, mounted in such a way that they were used to bolt something UNDER the bottom panel. No sign of ever being used.

Hey Richard, long time no "E"! Yeah, been busy with non-TV obligations, and trying to get the business stuff outa my place so I can get the TV/radio displays set up.

I saw Pete the other week, seems in fine health and spirits.

Very nice cabinet. Beautiful Queen Anne style legs. It could be a custom cabinet for radio phonograph. There are what look like two rails on the bottom shelf. It's sure big enough to hold something that needs a classic touch.

Hey Marlin, you might try posting a link to this over at A.R.F. http://antiqueradios.com/forums/

Perhaps someone there will recognize it.

I had a Guild TV... It was a fake bedside table, and had a 14" rectangular tube. Probably about 1952-54. I don't remember for sure, but I think it was a Guild chassis, not one they bought.

Looks like a European Radio/TV combo cabinet to me. Maybe Philips or German? You could measure the dimensions of the cabinet with a yard stick and a meter stick to see which one comes up with round numbers like 80 cm verses 25.063 inches or 24 1/2 inches verses 79.8 cm, that might tell you where it was made, except if it was English. Its a really beautiful cabinet. Logan

Read all about McMichael

A quick search found a great history of McMichael, a very interesting company;

http://www.ingineur.co.uk/McM/index.htm

Click on the history tab for the full history.

And a product lineup also;

http://www.thevalvepage.com/tvmanu/m.../mcmichael.htm

Your set appears twice. Once as a tv only and later as a tv or tv/radio. Same 12" set every time. A quick search of ebay UK showed some McMichael radios and radiograms but no tv's.

I use this link to search UK television sets;

Way to go Dave! I have been so busy I had forgotten I posted it, but now the mystery is solved! (Wish I had the guts to the thing though...)

That explains why it was gutted. It was a 405 line british set. Some GI stationed in England after the war probably brought it back with him when he came home in the early 50's, not realizing it wasn't NTSC compatible. Not wanting to throw away such a nice cabinet, he probably gutted it and used it to hold a tabletop set or a metal portable of similar size.
