The chassis in my Sylvania D-16 was WORSE than that and I still was able to make it work by changing caps and a BUNCH of badly drifted resistors.
That could be an interesting restoration...Get the chassis going right, pull the front panel and guts out, and make a new cabinet. Personally I like having at least one Zombie TV. There is a nice shock factor having a complete wreck warmup to a near perfect picture. It is like those guys who get the drive train, steering and brakes good on a 60-80 year old rust bucket car that some would not even bother to save from a crusher and then proudly drive it around in it's decrepit looking state.

Yeah, clean out the chassis, check and replace any missing tubes and shotgun any caps that might be too far gone. You never know. That rotted case is so wild, just to see it come up would be one for the books.

I took the whole mess apart and power washed the mask and the ENTIRE chassis. My dad said he will get busy building a new cabinet.

Looks like a Sylvania b&w TV, made after 1964 since it has a UHF tuner; also, the name "Sylvania" is just below the speaker.
I don't know how the cabinet got to be in such bad shape. I'd say termites, but good grief--no termite or bunch of termites ever did this much damage! That or else the set was left in the rain and got soaked, to the point where the cabinet joints started loosening. As for the missing chunks out of the top, I'm not sure. ![]() I agree with Zeno on just plugging the set in and seeing what happens. At best, you may get a raster and white noise; at worst, the chassis will start smoking and/or burning. You truly do not have anything to lose by powering up this TV. You will also be getting several knobs, tubes, and other salvageable parts, so whether or not the set works, your efforts dragging the set home will not have been in vain.

There is a video on youtube where Shango066 found a 12" Zenith B&W that had been outside for years and it basically fired right up with very little effort.

Yep, I saw that video. I've seen pretty much every Shango066 TV video there is. I love watching them and I'd love to meet him one day. Here is the Sylvania chassis after I gave it the power wash treatment. Looks pretty good, eh? After I washed it, I dried it out really good with a blow dryer for about half an hour.

Did you pop a nipple during the wash? Looking at your previous photos the getter wasn't white on one of those tubes earlier.

The tube on the top left was already gassed out.

It's getting to that time of the year where you can put it in the car, leave it in the sun and by the evening you've pretty much baked all the moisture out.

Did this chassis ever dry out well enough to work?

I never did bother trying it. Got too busy with real TV's.
