Link to brochure here:
http://www.tvhistory.tv/1951-Philco-Brochure.jpg Sams Photofact #138, folder 7 lists 51T1601, 1602, 1607 and 1634....the 1601 is shown on the cover of the Sams and has a lighter colored front than shown in the brochure, so I am confused about the diferences between the 1601 and 1607. The first "roundie" that I collected many years ago was a mahogany 1634, obtained when a college classmate had to move and give it up. Still works fine, with just a few tube replacements and a few new caps and resistors replaced on an "as needed" basis. http://www.videokarma.org/attachment...3&d=1269455624 http://www.videokarma.org/attachment...5&d=1262638552 Interesting that your '51 has the same " + " center knobs as my wife's early '53 childhood set, rather than the "plain" centers on my 1634m: http://www.videokarma.org/attachment...4&d=1291836085 jr Last edited by jr_tech; 02-17-2016 at 01:59 PM. Yes, Bandersen is right about the model.

Well it's possible it doesn't have the right knobs on it. I'll look close at the pictures on the sams and see what it has on it.

Here's a photo of the knobs on mine before I parted the set out. They all have a center "+" but I think the colors are mismatched. I still have them. Let me know if you need any.

Looking at your photo, it looks like I need your on/off volume knob. Mine doesn't have the crosses, just smooth.

Well I fired it up slowly on a variac to see if everything was functioning and absolutely no tubes lit up. So that's discouraging. At least my 16" crt tests pretty good! I'll place a cap order soon and get to work on it.

After spraying the on/off volume I finally got the set to turn on and all tubes lit up. Didn't get a raster but could hear the vertical running. Time to order caps. There is a little wax under the flyback, so I hope it's still intact.

I've seen this model with the plus in the center of the knobs and without and with clear knobs.... also the philco logo not raised but painted on..... there were variations durring production as well as the green around the screen instead of the brown wood look.

If I remember correctly, the logo was a blank coverup for a UHF tuner option. They must have made this set with many production runs. The face of mine has a faux red leather look. I've also seen it in a faux green leather too. The SAMs shows the earlier copper basket weave knobs, completely different.

After recapping this set I have faint video and a full raster. Sound is barely present also. Now to figure out my video issues,

Now I've lost audio all together, but all of my tubes are gone. Not sure what's happening but just a plain raster.

Even though the 6AQ5 video output tube tested good, it was not. I swapped it out and now I have video. The horizontal is not stable, so onto that.

Yup-seen many times a tube tests good and did not work in operation. even new ones. back in the day, i used to stock a "tested in operation"" used tube set for troubleshooting(after they passed a tube tester.). saved me a LOt of time.
once in a while,i would retest them in a known working set on my bench and tube tester just to be sure. its a good tip forum-everybody should do this with common tubes. horz output and damper was still a little ify if you where troubleshooting width problems though-not perfect but helped a lot. After swapping many 12au7 sync tubes, I finally got the horizontal and vertical sync to lock and produce a great picture. I'm gonna put the knobs on and call this one finished!
