Thanks for checking Eric. I purged alot of excess stuff back in '88 when I gave this up, now I regret it.

I have the same set. Some klutz tried soldering the antenna lead with some solid rain gutter solder and dripped a big blob on the yoke winding. I used a heat gun, instead of a soldering iron, to minimize damage to the winding. It doesn't look too positive.
I too, scrapped a lot of parts for the old sets, now I'm paying through the nose for the same items.

If this set wasn't in such good condition complete with hang tags, schematic and operators manual, I would not go through the trouble of ordering a yoke.

But, Moyer's Electronics had 4 of them in Thordarson and I just bought one for $25 plus tax and shipping. That must have been from the 1985 list price - LOL

I moved the set to the attic, thinking it would be hard to find the part. Probably what the last owner did when it crapped out originally. Usually when a set works perfect and suddenly quits, it is likely to reappear at the estate sale. Otherwise when there are a ton of hours on it before it quits, it just goes to the curb.

Many Zeniths met this fate because the owner often said, "that played fine for years and then poof - that set owes me nothing". Stay tuned, this isnt over yet.

The new old stock RCA yoke came from Moyers. It did not have the evil black epoxy on it - good to know this may have been addressed as this yoke is dated 1976.

It plugged right in and worked as hoped. $35 including shipping was not too much to spend for a new part 'specially with such a good CRT and cabinet.

How appropriate to get an OEM part.

Even better when it works. I find when replacing a big-ticket item, that is usually it. Otherwise one cap, one resistor, one tube rarely is the extent of the problem.

The brightness is only at 60% here, this set has a lot of life in it. Needs a bit of work on the vertical linearity but that may be it.

The only solid state RCA I recall from the 60s is the 9" KCS 153, which is mentioned in another forum recently.

That one--and the KCS-157, which is a 10" or so portable--AC/DC set--with the pop-up controls. 1967 I think. Have one somewhere.

I THINK for 1969 or so....they came out with the KCS 184 or such another SS AC/DC set.

Then of course--in 1968...there was the CTC 40 SS COLOR set--but it could NOT be called portable...

Great picture, and a positive rescue of a classic larger portable! I sure hope Moyers stays around, they are a valuable resource for parts. Last week I ordered an Horizontal Oscillator / Horizontal Waveform Coil, that got the H. Osc. running again in my 1965 Magnavox roundie color tv, I'm very pleased, part and shipping just under $20, can't beat that. Until the early to mid-80's, I had two local electronic parts suppliers, within 10 miles of my house, Electronic Supply Co., and Joe Coombes Dist., both in Pontiac, MI, I sure do miss them, great resources, long since gone.
