Reminds me of the music video where skateboarders trash a Zenith.

The question here is, could that phonograph had really gone up in fire like that, or did he light it up on purpose. I had assumed he lit it on fire on purpose because (for some unknown reason) he thought that story would actually help it sell.
I've never seen a phonograph motor just catch fire, and I've messed around with a lot of them, now I did once have a color magnavox where the flyback caught almost fire, it mainly just smoked a lot, the worst of it was that it stunk up my Los Angeles apartment for days. |

That fire needed help to burn like that. There's no plastic in there; masonite doesn't burn like that. Somebody put gasoline on it, I say. Not nice to see.

I'm w/Charles. The whole thing just looks fishy as all h3ll to me. I've seen a few equipment fires in my day, invariably there is some charring, melted plastic, wires, etc. Wood has to get VERY hot to burn like that, & even the most crack-addled cretin would notice a conflagration of that magnitude, & done something about it.

I vote that the whole ad is a joke....probably what really happened was a bit of drinking and a "Hey, lets set the tt on fire and see how long it plays before dying". Can't believe they really intend to sell it-they were probably moving it to the curb when "inspiration" struck...

I take it that the author of that ad isn't an English major...

Maybe he majored in "Jive"? Least the language he wrote in looks similar to what we called jive back in the 70's, but i'm not from the 'hood, so I may be way off base here...

You emailed the guy, lol? What did you possibly say? Has anyone else emailed? At least this is better than eBay, where you have to go through all that BS to ask a "question".

If I would have emailed him it would have probably went something like this, " Yo! wow you blazed that s*** up like the roof was on fia dawg! I gotz me one of 'dem bitc**s awedy and that atrai is da shizzle on it yo! yo mussa had a mo fo of a time hitting da traks deep!
But now in all honesty, do you realize what you destroyed? That a classic part of american history. And you destroyed it in a little pyro incident. Nice. Age and intellegence obviously need not apply here. Nobody's going to buy your **** now, maybe before your intellect got to it, but not now. You might as well just take the ad off craiglist. You copy or do you need me to interperet the last few sentences for you as well?

There is no way that turntable could have caught fire on its own, they would have set it on fire after the turntable packed up and the motor started smoking more than likely. Unfortunately it seems to be the age of "idiots'' these days... sad.
