Wow! I have never seen an early 16:9 Trinitron! And that CRT looks great as well. That is way cool! Now did that set have 405 line scan? I'm not too sure if France adapted the European system or not..

Hello again,

No 405, never in France. Also totally abandoned in the UK from the early 80s.

The 16:9 Sony set was a single standard 625/50 TV

Just got the television today!! I'll take pics this weekend and post. The flathead ford heads to my knowladge were saved and sitting in a friends machine shop. Not sure if he wants to sell off anything yet, sure i'll find out soon. Suprisingly the bank had all the stuff in the garage sent out to the curb for pickup. it was pretty much free market there!

Hey guys,
sorry I didn't show it off earlier.. Here's some pics of the 7010.
The first pics are from the set with the bezel off to clean the face of the CRT and glass. I decided to take pics so you guys can see the face of the primative trinitron CRT without the bezel hiding the glass envolope. The pics are a little fuzzy, I took those on my iphone.

Here is a closeup of the CRT in action. Nice bright CRT.
I still have the cover off trying to straighten out the sheet metal.

In theory, there's no "weak" transistor... I'd say more likely a cap in the horziontal oscillator or sync circuit. I suppose a silicon transistor could leak, but it's unlikely, and if the driver were acting up it would most likely blow the output.

Maybe check these electrolytics: C510,512,514,517,518, and 519. Those are located on the SD board near Q504-Q505. ***These location numbers are per Sony; Sams sometimes uses it's own location numbers on early Japanese schematics.

Do you have the Sony factory book on it?

Lol, no I dont have a book. Did they use paper back then? lol
I did some "poking around on the horiz deflection board. There are some caps in question. Also on this set the big filter cap has a board connected to it. This sits above the CRT. There is a resistor burned. I should check the ESR on this puppy too as it seems there is a little bit of a hum cycle in the raster.

I'd say that could be the cause of the hum, so I'd check that can. However, the ESR meter might not see the leak on a large, higher voltage cap like that one might sound like it is. Best bet is to scope it and see if there's any unwanted AC pulse showing on the cap. And of course if it gets warm, or is oozing at the terminals. I have the factory manual on it, so if you like I can send it as the others. The schematic is a fold-out single page at appx 24" x 36". I might try doing a photo and eMailing it if you are OK with big files. We upgraded our cell modems, and it seems a little better now for big files.
