Galactica Final Episode - thoughts

Upon giving further thought to this "cycle" of "it has happened before, it will happen again", reminds me of a similar theme in Babylon 5. Iwonder where the writers of BSG got the idea?

B5 was a great show. The characters were well played and that is what initially drew me into the show.

"Television composer Bear McCreary arranged a version of "All Along the Watchtower" for use in the final scene of the Battlestar Galactica season three finale "Crossroads, Part II". The lyrics had been written into the screenplay by Ronald D. Moore. [19] Four of the "final five" Cylons discover that they are Cylons when they simultaneously hear the song and are drawn together. Versions of the song are used again throughout the season four, even including a piano version. The song becomes a key plot point, and the notes of the song are interpreted as coordinates. In the final episode, the character Starbuck makes reference to the song, commenting: "There must be some kind of way out of here". The final scene of the of the series's last episode plays out to the The Jimi Hendrix version of the song."

According to Ronald Moore in the BSG special "The Last Frakkin Special" he states that the idea of "it has happened before, it will happen again" came from a line in Peter Pan.

I always struggled with the show and missed most of the series. Did see most of the last episode and even more confused with all the flashbacks. Even more confusing was the cylons helping the humans, hybrid cyclon/humans, etc. I did see the episode where they landed on the bombed out earth and the new earth idea really did not suprise me.

Damn. I missed that the piano 'come together' mystery tune was a derivation of "Watchtower".

Nicely done ending to a fascinating series. SF these days has gotten to be a real leader in terms of story arc development. B5 staked out the new territory, SG played in it, even Enterprise was forced into that mode by their successes.

Very enjoyable ending to a great series, but I found it a bit unbelievable that there would be a universal 'back to basics' commitment among 38k+ colonists. Other than that, nicely done.

However, for all its successes - BG, SG, Atlantis - the rest of SciFi Channel programming is the worst. I honestly am continually amazed at the rip-off/derivative 'B' movies that they produce. Do they actually think anyone wants to watch that drivel? Some of that stuff is so crappy that I feel embarrassed FOR them as I watch the ads. <sigh>

Don't forget RDM's previous work on DS9, a show which became very heavily serialized as it went along.
